Now I don’t have to read Rosen’s book, thank you. I’m sure you saw the NYT long read by Ellen Barry this weekend, The Man in Room 117. Your essay blew her simple minded reporting out of the water.

that piece drove me crazy -- she makes it sound like there are so many resources available, free housing for everyone, support groups, and all the rest of it. the only problem is this one guy's refusal to take his meds. that is such a distortion of what the system is like for people!

I gave up on deBoer after learning he's very concerned about the heritability of IQ. Seems like nothing good ever comes out of people who start walking that path.

Given his left-wing grounding and prior experiences with the institution of mental health in America, you’d think he’d blame the system instead of dragging people online. But that’s what happens when you’re trapped in the Substack cycle.
