It’s been a bad week for U.S. journalism. (It’s always a bad week for U.S. journalism.) Another round of media layoffs and closures have been announced, this time at Insider and the multiple properties associated with Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed News is in its entirety about to disappear, like Gawker and the other Gawker before it. This follows the layoffs at NPR, Vice, ABC News, Bustle, and Salem Media, not to mention the previous round of layoffs at Buzzfeed and Vice, and the round of layoffs before that one.
People talk about a crisis in media. This is not a crisis in media. This is a market correction. The United States has too many writers.
