The surprise closure of UArts, the rise of the creativity coach, and other indignities
Last week, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia announced they were shutting down effective almost immediately. Students went online to say not only had they not been warned about this before it showed up in the news, they had only hours before received their bills for next fall’s tuition and fees. This leaves the “Avenue of the Arts” essentially without any art — with the opera company and symphony in real trouble, the arts district is going to be just some condo buildings named after composers. While the story is still developing, Nico and I talk about the post-university artistic scene and why art schools might just be glorified real estate companies.
