A lot of political advocacy focuses on making the individual care about the issues. Shock the voter with sentimentality and maybe they’ll donate some money or call their representative and then — dot dot dot — change happens!
This is not a formula that has really been working, but still we go after it. Here look at the horrors of war, the aftermath of mass shootings, the victims of police brutality, look at it look at it look at it. The reason these problems have not been acted on is not because people don’t care, but because we don’t have a responsive government nor systems in place to turn care into action. So all this caring just leads to exhaustion.
